This program involves many community partners who contribute to providing experiential learning opportunities. It provides instructional and support services to Latino students with an emphasis on academic assistance, cultural enrichment, intervention, and school-home liaison. Proyecto also provides additional support specifically in math. Proyecto Saber empowers students by promoting pride and self-esteem through culturally relevant projects, activities and cultural and historical presentations. Additionally, Proyecto provides bilingual/bicultural educators that work hard to increase performance and close the “Academic Achievement Gap,” and provide a “safe, personalized learning environment” both of which are stated goals of Seattle Schools. Last year, Proyecto Saber served more than 500 students. The current District level dropout rate for Latino Students hovers around 30-40% (depending on whose figures you use and how they are calculated) and the figure for students supported by Proyecto from the middle school level on is less than 10%. Proyecto Saber works!. For more information about Proyecto Saber please contact Delfino Muñóz by email at: delfinomunoz at comcast.com
